![]() Personally, I almost always use the Advanced adjustment options in the New game settings, there it's possible to set the agressiveness and rate of production for pirate faction and strength of dominators (I use this to set the difficulty of main enemies). ![]() ![]() Also they reduce activity after taking a certain amount of systems (depends on difficulty). This is more pronounced in the early game, when they are much stronger than coalition military and rangers, but it evens out later on. Many of us consider the whole pirate faction/storyline annoying, it was added in HD release, and the balance isn't particularly friendly to newbies or players that want a less aggravating behavior from them. The attacks don't stop until you finish the pirate storyline (and choose appropriate outcome), I think the range of attacks is 30 parsecs - so any system in range is a potential target, just like with dominators. Yes, pirates are essentially another variation of dominators when it comes to war /fighting with them, the difference is - if you're with them or in good standing with them, then you can treat their systems as friendly along with coalition systems. RTS missions are a matter of taste, personally I like them. ![]()
